Lecomtella madagascariensis

I am really thrilled to announce that my pen and ink illustration of the rare Madagascan grass, Lecomtella madagascariensis, has been awarded Second Prize in this year's Margaret Flockton Award in Sydney, Australia! You can see an image of the specimen under the microscope in my previous news item.

Winners were announced at the opening of the exhibition on Friday 12th April. First prize went to Rogiero Lupo from Brazil, and there were also three Highly Commended awards given.

This year's award and exhibition mark the 10th anniversary of this prestigious award for scientific botanical illustration. It is named in honour of Margaret Flockton, who was botanical illustrator for the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney from 1901 - 1927.

All of the works can be viewed at the Red Box Gallery, National Herbarium of NSW, Mrs Macquaries Road Sydney.
The exhibition runs from Monday 15 April - Friday 26 July 2013, 10 am-4 pm. Special weekend viewings in conjunction with Botanica 2013 exhibition: 13-14 and 27-28 April.
